Why We Have B.H.M
The reasont we have Black History Month is because its a time of the year when we should celebrate our freedom. We all should be proud to be able to go to school where ever, work where ever you want, and just be free. This is the time of year when we do that. We thank god and all of those that made a difference. We are all proud of the fact that we are free. If it wern't for the African Americans that went through slavery and died for freedom we might still be slaves now. We need to think about all of the things we overcame and the obsticals still to come. Also we need stop being ungreatful for the things we have. We need to take a good look around us and think about how it was when Rosa Parks was a child and young aldult. Then think about how we have it now and the face that they did what they did for us and our freedom. Everyone needs to thank all of those who fought for our freedom and rights.

Rosa Parks is one of the most known people in the world. She is known for her braveness during slavery. She is the woman who refused to move from her seat on the bus for a white man. She is one of many that made a difference in our nation. Also she is a very strong black woman.
Mrs. Parks was born as Rosa Louise McCauley on February 4th, 1913 in Tuskegee Alabama. She passed away on October 24th, 2005 {age 92}. She was the first child of James and Leona Edwards McCauley. She had a younger brother Sylvester McCauley. At age 11 Rosa was educated at Montgomery industrial school for girls. After grammar school she went to Alabama state teacher’s college high school. Unfortunately after all of her hard work she couldn’t graduate, because of her grandmother’s illness and later death. When she decided to go back her mother became ill, so she had to continue taking care of the house and her mother while her brother Sylvester worked outside of their home. She received her high school diploma in 1934, after her marriage to Raymond Parks, December 18, 1932. They where a great couple and they where made for each other. Raymond, now deceased was a loving and caring man. He always encouraged and supported her desire to complete her formal education. Raymond was a self-educated person. He was the love of Rosa’s life, and she was the love of his also.
On December 1st 1955 Rosa refused to surrender her seat to a white male on an Alabama bus. Then she was arrested. After that she was nationally recognized as the “mother of modern day civil rights movement”. That was a very brave thing to do. Back then colored people had to sit in the back of the bus, drink out of different water fountains, go to different schools, go to different restrooms, and lots of other things. We didn’t have the freedom we do now, and Rosa is one of the many people that helped make a difference. If it weren’t for Rosa and many others we would still be doing those things. I personally am very proud of what she did for us. I know she is very proud of what our nation had become. I am very happy for Mrs. Rosa Parks!!
